We adopted him when he was 4 months old from a friendly elderly couple in the dog park. They were re-homing him from their son. So, as you can see Louie has has a few homes. I love this dog more than anything, but am having problems with him nipping and biting at my 8 year old daughter. I really feel this dog would work best in a CALM stable home with adults or older children (middle school and up). I have never seen him get aggressive with her or other dogs, but what I've come to learn about Louie is ... (Read More)that his energy literally feeds off of those he is around. So, when my 8 year old starts running around, playing with toys, and speaking in high pitches, he reacts to that and starts nipping at her arms, hands, ankles. I really believe he is just wanting to play, but he is hurting her and that's not ok. When we first met him at the dog park, he and my daughter got along wonderfully. I think the dog park had a relaxing effect. We didn't see his true behavior until we got home. First, I thought he was just biting her because he was a puppy. Then, I heard he would settle down once I got him neutered. We have had him for a year now and he has been neutered. The biting still hasn't stopped. (And yes the dog has numerous chew toys, KONGs, bones, etc). He just gets over stimulated by her energy and will respond with the nipping. He has been through 5 months of consistent dog training. He is very smart, knows a lot of tricks, and loves the agility course. I have attempted to work through these concerns with the trainer. She has provided exercises to help relax him, but I struggle with providing him with an atmosphere to relax in with an 8 year old running around. He just keeps getting overly stimulated and it's not good for either one of them. Louie has incredible potential and is super smart. He trains easily but gets distracted easily. That's why a calm, quiet environment and someone with the time to continue training him would be ideal. I believe he is fully capable of learning how to be around other children, but I feel he needs to learn this apart from children right now. Louie is high energy and loves to run and play. Please note: HIGH energy. He needs a place where there is always going to be someone to play with him and love on him. If you're gone a lot during the day, it won't work well. You're going to need access to a backyard or a dog park because this dog likes to run--and is very fast. (He can keep up with Italian greyhounds). He is a very sweet and loyal dog. I know this because when my daughter is at school and it's very quiet, he relaxes and loves to snuggle and cuddle. He will make a great companion to the right person. He is appx a year and 3 months. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on shots. I can provide paper work. I will also provide the supplies I have for him. He is house broken and crate-trained (positive reinforcement--I never use the crate to punish--and neither should you!) Unfortunately, I can't provide the crate as it was a loaner to begin with. I have invested a lot of time, love, and money into Louie. He is a great dog and I believe he with be able to thrive in a different environment than the one we can provide him at this time. I am believing his perfect family is going to read this and respond. I am in no hurry to adopt him. I am more interested in finding the perfect home for him. If you are interested, please tell me about you, your home environment, and why you think this would be a good fit. If you aren't willing to spend some time with details, I can tell you aren't willing to spend the time with Louie. :) Thank you! And best to you in your search! (Less) Animal Location:
